UPLIFTING AND THOUGHT PROVOKING STORIES

ISLAND OF LOVE

Once upon a time there was an island where all the feelings lived;
Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all the others, including Love.

One day it was announced to all of the feelings that the island was going
to sink to the bottom of the ocean.
So all the feelings prepared their boats to leave.
Love was the only one that stayed.
She wanted to preserve the island paradise
until the last possible moment.

When the island was almost totally under
love decided it was time to leave.

She began looking for someone to ask for help.

Just then Richness was passing by in a grand boat.
Love asked, "Richness, Can I come with you on your boat?"
Richness answered,"I'm sorry, but there is a lot of silver and gold on
my boat and there would be no room for you anywhere."

Then Love decided to ask Vanity for help who was
passing in a beautiful vessel.
Love cried out, "Vanity, help me please".
"I can't help you", Vanity said, "You are all wet and will damage my
beautiful boat."

Next, Love saw Sadness passing by. Love said,
"Sadness, please let me go with you." Sadness answered,
"Love, I'm sorry, but, I just need to be alone now."

Then, Love saw Happiness. Love cried out,
" Happiness, please take me with you." But Happiness was so overjoyed that
he didn't hear Love calling to him.

Love began to cry. Then, she heard a voice say, "Come Love, I will take
you with me." It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that she
forgot to ask the elder his name.

When they arrived on land the elder went on his way. Love realized how much she owed the elder.
Love then found Knowledge and asked, "Who was that helped me?"
"It was Time", Knowledge answered.
"But why did Time help me when no one else would?", Love asked.

Knowledge smiled and with deep wisdom and sincerity,
answered,

"Because only Time is capable of
understanding how
great
Love
is."

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen within her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole.

But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul....it is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that
she shows, and the beauty of
a woman with passing years..... only grows!

YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!

AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE CHAPTERS

Chapter One

I walk down a street.
There is a deep hole in the footpath.
I fall in
I am lost.......I am hopeless...
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the footpath.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I'm in the same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.

Chapter Three

I walk down the same street.
there is a deep hole in the footpath.
I still fall in...it's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter Four

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the footpath.
I walk around it.

Chapter Five

I walk down another street.

FAMILY

I bumped into a stranger as he passed by
"Oh excuse me please," was my reply
He said, "Please excuse me, too;
I wasn't really watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I

We went on our way and we said good-bye.

But at home a different story is told

How we treat our loved ones, young and old

Later that day, cooking the evening meal
My son stood beside me very still.
When I turned, I nearly knocked him down
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown
He walked away, his little heart broken

I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake that night in bed
God's still small voice came to me and said
"While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use
But the children you love, you seem to abuse.
Go and look on the kitchen floor
You'll find some flowers there by the door
Those are the flowers he brought for you
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.
He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise
You never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."
By this time, I was feeling very small
And then my tears began to fall

I quietly went and knelt by his bed

"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.
"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree
I picked 'em because they're pretty like you
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."
I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way"

He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay I love you anyway"

"Son, I love you too And I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working
for could easily replace us in a matter of days.

But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it we pour ourselves more into work than into
our own family--- an unwise investment indeed, dont you think? !

 MAYBE ??

Maybe God wanted us to meet the wrong people
before meeting the right one so that
when we finally meet the right person,
we will know
how to be grateful for that gift.

Maybe when the door of happiness closes another opens,
but often times we look so
long at the closed door
that we don't see
the one which has been opened for us.

Maybe the best kind of friend is the kind
you can sit on a porch and swing with,
never say a word, and then walk away feeling like
it was the
best conversation you've ever had.

Maybe it is true that we don't know what we've
got until we lose it,
but it is also true
that we don't know what we have been missing
until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance
that they will love you back.
Don't expect love in return; just wait
for it to grow in their heart;
but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.

It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone,
an hour to like someone,
and a day to love someone,
but it takes a lifetime
to forget someone.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile
because it takes only a smile
to make a dark day seem bright.

Find the one that makes your heart smile.
There are moments in life
when you miss someone so much
that you just want to pick them from your dreams
and hug them for real.

Dream what you want to dream;
go where you want to go; be what you want to be,
because you have only one life and
one chance to do all the things
you want to do.

May you have enough happiness
to make you sweet,
enough trials to make you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human,
enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others' shoes.
If you feel that it hurts you,
it probably hurts
the other person,
too.

The happiest of people
don't necessarily have the best of everything;
they just make the most
of everything that comes
along their way.

Happiness lives for those who cry, those who hurt,
those who have searched, and those who have tried,
for only they can appreciate the
importance of people
who have touched their lives.

Love begins with a smile,
grows with a kiss
and ends
with
a tear.

The brightest future will always
be based on a forgotten past,
you can't go on well in life
until you let go
of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born,
you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so that
when you die,
you are the one who is smiling and
everyone around you is crying.*

THE THREE WISE MEN

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them.
She said, "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry.
Please come in and have something to eat."
"Is the man of the house home?", they asked. "No," she said, "He's out."
"Then we cannot come in," they replied.
In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.
"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!" The woman went out and invited the men in.
"We do not go into a House together," they replied.
"Why is that?" she wanted to know. One of the old men explained:
"His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one,
"He is Success, and I am Love."
Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which
one of us you want in your home."
The woman went in and told her husband what was said.
Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!," he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"
His wife disagreed, "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"
Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house.
She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love?
Our home will then be filled with love!" "Let us heed our daughter-in-law's
advice," said the husband to his wife.
"Go out and invite Love to be our guest."
The woman went out and asked the 3 old men,
"Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest."
Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also
got up and followed him.
Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, why are you coming in?"
The old men replied together:
"If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever he goes, we follow him.
Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!"

MY WISH FOR YOU...... Where there is pain, I wish you peace and mercy.
Where there is self-doubting, I wish you a renewed' confidence in your
ability to work through them.
Where there is tiredness, or exhaustion, I wish you understanding,
patience, and renewed strength.
Where there is fear, I wish you love, and courage.

A STORY TO REMIND US OF WHAT IS TRUELY IMPORTANT IN LIFE

The story goes that some time ago a man punished his 5-year-old daughter
for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper.
Money was tight and he became even more upset when the child pasted the gold paper so as to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her father the
next morning and said,
" This is for you, Daddy."

The father was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger
flared again when he found the box was empty.
He spoke to her in a harsh manner, "Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?"

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said,
Oh,Daddy, it's not empty.
I blew kisses into it until it was full."

The father was crushed.
He fell on his knees and put his arms around his
little girl, and he begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger.

An accident took the life of the child only a short time later and it is
told that the father kept that gold box by his bed
for all the years of his life.
And whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems he
would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and
remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us as human beings have been given a
golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses
from our children, family, friends.
There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

Friends are like angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have
trouble remembering how to fly.

IT DOESN'T INTEREST ME.....

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing?

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive?

It doesn't interest me what sign you are. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain?

I want to know of you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without having to hide it, fade it or fix it?

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic or to remember the limitation of being human?

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself, if you can bear accusation of betrayal and not betray your soul?

I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore trust worthy? I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty everyday, and if you can source your life form its presence?

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the sliver of the moon...YES!

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the
bone and do what needs to be done, for the children?

It doesn't interest me who you are or how you came to be here. I want to know if you can stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back?

It doesn't interest me what or where or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away?

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in empty moments?
