- An
holistic approach is taken in this
- Pain
Management
- Program.
|
Experiencing pain can
start to cloud one's view of one's life and can
have an impact on how one thinks, feels and
certainly on one's capacity to undertake
physical activities in the same manner prior to
the pain experience.
If it is severe pain, it
can effect one's capacity to be able to carry
out what is termed 'normal activities of daily
living.
If this is so then there
are major losses experienced which can effect
self-confidence, self-esteem, one's
independance, loss of status in one's family and
in society in general and may even effect one's
capacity 'to earn a living' .
All of these changes in
circumstances can have a detrimental effect on
one's relationships and often a person will
begin to feel helpless and hopeless in the face
of all of this.
- Initially
a thorough assessment is made,
- taking
all of the above issues into
consideration
- as
well as the
following
|
- to understand the
nature of the pain e.g. where it is sited,
how it is experienced
- the severity of the
pain i.e. the client rates the pain on
detailed pain charts
- the limitations and
effect the pain has on 'Activities of Daily
Living
- to explore the
relationship i.e. attitude the person has
with the pain
- The
approach to treatment will be
tailored to the individual needs of
the client following
- the
above assessment
- being
mindful that
- prolonged
and chronic pain has an impact
- on
all aspects of one's
life.
